Crazy London Days at World Travel Market

Holiday at Home Richmond

It’s coming up to a year since I finished my full time legal job and I’ve been asked a few times if I miss it. I’ve written about why I don’t miss the actual job here, but when you also have weeks where you spend 3 days in London with other crazy people who have swapped full time paid work for freelancing and chaos I know what I love about it! It’s the variety and the fun.

At the beginning of November I spent 3 crazy days with a good friend Sarah at WTM London: this is the leading global event for the travel industry to meet industry professionals and conduct business deals.  It’s quite literally 3 days of crazy fun; you can chat to people from Malaysia and Barbados about luxury hotels, people in London about Harry Potter and Bus Tours, or plan your next trip away with the family to Europe. In the case of the speed networking I took part in on the Wednesday, you can do all this in the space of 20 minutes.  It is exhausting.

Now I’m not actually complaining. Anyone who saw the Facebook posts of me that week will see that I managed to fit in a few cocktails with the girls, there was the odd glass of wine (or three) and it really isn’t a hardship to talk about luxury villas in Greece with the team at Simpson Travel. However you do walk a lot!

The Excel is absolutely huge and I am so glad I wore my Hotter boots one day and my Woden trainers from Tessuti the next! Genuinely they are both like wearing slippers and they are the two comfiest shoes I have!

I even know how many steps and miles I did due to my new Tom Tom Touch. I did 18,631 steps on the Tuesday which was the long full day.

Thank goodness at the end of all that craziness we had the fantastic hotel Le Meridien Piccadilly to stay at. More photos of the hotel to follow but just look at our breakfast! We even managed a swim one morning. There aren’t many central London hotels with that facility!

I’ve had a couple of weeks where I have been working at home most days, but that’s ok as next week I am off to Paris to attend a conference – more on that another day too!

That all sounds exhausting, but fabulous too.

TWTM is one of the things I miss most about working in travel! I used to love all the random freezies I’d get walking around – lays made from plastic fish was one of the craziest 🙂
